It’s Victoria Day weekend here in Canada, usually spent putting in gardens and watching fireworks. No gardening for us this year, though – we live at the edge of a forest with a serious deer overpopulation problem, and anything we plant gets munched on pretty quickly. (I realize there’s a list of “safe” plants, but the deer in my area haven’t read the list!) Instead, we spent yesterday morning in the backyard, cleaning all of the winter muck off the gazebo and outdoor furniture. Now we have a great little outdoor nook for reading, listening to birds and watching the kids play in the deer-nibbled garden. It’s also a favourite spot for tea parties with guests big and small. Welcome summer!
